Whakatiki river adventure

This technically isn't a walk or hike but more of a swim. Following the river up, bend after bend. This walk/swim requires strong swimming in gentle currents. Swimming through eroded gullies and channels opening up to awesome swimming holes and stunning waterfalls. Can be as short or as long as wanted, a nice waterfall is about 1.5 hours up river making for a well rounded trip. Please be careful on this route and make sure your swimming is up to par as sections contain strong currents where touching the bottom or "going around" isn't an option. Summer temperatures are also recommended as you'll be wet for the majority of this route. Finding your way to the river can be tricky if you don't know where to start. Start at the given carpark below. Continue across the grass straight out infront of the carpark to the corner swimming hole in the Hutt river. Cross the Hutt river and join the tributary river that is the Whakatiki river which runs in from the otherside of the swimming hole behind the bushes. Follow the river up as far as wanted.
