wainuiomata Coast
Wind wind wind. Being the large, open and exposed coastline it is, Wainui is only fishable on a Northerly wind. The southern facing coast gets battered by any Southerly winds which will make for an extremely unpleasant experience. A large swell can also make things tricky so be sure to check the wind and swell maps before deciding that Wainui is today's spot. Being a 45 minute drive, it's not a spot you want to be sent away from upon arrival due to poor conditions. Like most surfcasting spots, it is recommended to use sand sinkers to hold your line tight in any potential swell. Moki is probably the target species on this coast with a few other species being caught here too. The cast for Moki doesn't need to be enormous as they usually feed closer to shore.
