Pencarrow lighthouse

The Pencarrow Lighthouse is a must on a sunny day. An easy 7KM along a flat gravel road next to breathtaking views makes for a fulfilling day out. A short sharp climb leads to the lighthouse allowing for a perfect picnic spot provided the wellington wind isnt too strong. Explore further around the coast or head inland at the lighthouse and try a variety of farmland tracks adding to the adventure. The trail itself is flat , primarily used as an access road for council and service trucks. Don't be fooled by the gradient as a strong Northerly or Southerly breeze makes it tough in the given direction. On a still day however the ride is pure bliss. The final climb to the lighthouse can be taken on two different tracks. The first a more direct yet steep, pinchy climb that starts on the left of the gravel road as you approach the lighthouse. The other a slower and flatter climb that begins around the back of the lighthouse as you go around the headland. Both will raise the heart rate making sure you earn the final view.
