Lake ferry
Lake Ferry offers some seriously good fishing if done right and the conditions are on your side. Our furthest spot, Lake ferry sits around 1.5 - 2 hours drive from Wellington. Checking the conditions prior to leaving is important as it is a long drive just to be turned away if the conditions don't suit. Northerly winds are best as this is a Southern facing beach. A minimal amount of swell is best otherwise you'll be competing with surfers for a spot. The longer the cast the better so a surfcaster with a rod holder is the way to go. Sand sinkers are also required to keep your line tight and maximizing a chance of a catch. Lake Ferry has developed a name for good sized Kahawai that always put up a fun fight. A great weekend getaway for anyone looking to get out of the city.
